The History:

The story of this album goes something like this. Way back when we first heard about the Austin Indie Alliance, Hoag and Bone did an acoustic set during one of the AIA Thursday shows at the Vibe. This was about 10 months ago. It's where we first met our good friend Villican, lead singer for Freebleeder. He dug the tunes, and we shortly started doing shows together (albeit with the heaviest sets possible).

Just before Christmas last year, Hoag and I decided it was time to get some of the over 35 acoustic-themed songs that we had written together and individually down on record. It started out as just Hoag doing the singing and playing his songs, but soon we were just doing ALL the songs. The low-budget, internet-only release, was called "Bonesaw Presents: An Acoustic Evening with the Hoagman." Now only a few people got actual copies of the CD, but one of those people was our man Villican and his wife Lyns-evil. I guess something clicked with them, because soon they knew all the words! Villican then one day floated the idea of recording the songs again, at Beer Belly Studios, but with much better quality.

So we said "HELL YES!" and started laying down tracks over at Villican's studio. Thanks to David Herrod (of Bent Eye Bolt), the guitar that I'm playing sounds EXTRA lucious - the Taylor sound. We kept if nice and rough - lots of laughs, sounds from Villi's pets Elvis and David, Hoag's missed lyrics, etc. Silliness ensues on such songs as "Olivia" and "Bad News." But there are serious moments too, such as the instrumental "For Seasons" (the 'wishy-washy' sound you can hear in the background is the guitar rubbing against my pants leg cause I was swaying so intensly doing the lead track) and "Ghosts of Gettysburg," which is my favorite song on the album. I wanted Villican's production touch to really shine through, and he delivered! Adding little electric parts and choice effects - that's all him.

With help from our man Gil, I designed a cool cover, we mastered it, and sent it off to press! Can you figure out why we chose this cover? What does is mean to you? All in all, an AWESOME experience, a great album, and above all else, it showed me what good friends I've got in Villican, Gil, Lyns-evil, and Shirley. Oh yeah, and it also led to the inception of the Austin Slayers Street Hockey League (every Sunday at 1pm at Bedicheck Middleschool!).
